Indonesian Major

The major in Indonesian comprises coursework designed to build students' knowledge and skills in understanding and analysing Indonesian language and society.

Indonesian language subjects are organised in a progressive sequence (of units) from Indonesian 1 through to Indonesian 6, with 4 additional advanced units. Entry points are determined by the student’s background in the language, placement testing, prerequisites, or at the discretion of the Indonesian program. Students normally progress through the subjects in consecutive order. Mid-year entry is also possible into subjects with even numbers, subject to appropriate prior experience and approval from the head of the Indonesian program.

Students study Indonesian as a Major through a progression of six language subjects and an additional two elective subjects.
Students completing a major in Indonesian will usually undertake 25 points at level one, 37.5 points at level two and 37.5 points at level three.

Common entry points for the Major are as follows:

• Indonesian 1: Students who have never studied Indonesian before or have only rudimentary knowledge of the language usually enter the progression at Indonesian 1.
• Indonesian 3: Students who have completed VCE Indonesian (Second Language), Standard IB Indonesian or have an equivalent language level usually enter the progression at Indonesian 3.
• Indonesian 5: Students who perform at an advanced level in Indonesian, for example those who have completed VCE Indonesian (First Language) or have lived or studied in Indonesia, usually enter at Indonesian 5.

Students will have their appropriate entry point determined by the Indonesian Program, based on evidence of prior learning and/or results of a placement test as required. INDONESIAN 1 ENTRY POINT (formerly Beginners stream)

Indonesian 1 entry point - Level 1

Students completing an Indonesian major with an Indonesian 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points).

Note:
Indonesian 1 and Indonesian 2 were formely called Indonesian 1A and Indonesian 1B respectively

Indonesian 1 entry point - Level 2

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points) and one level 2 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).

Indonesian 1 entry point - Level 3

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points) and one level 3 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).

INDONESIAN 3 ENTRY POINT (formerly Post-VCE stream)

Indonesian 3 entry point - Level 1

Students completing an Indonesian major with an Indonesian 3 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points).

Indonesian 3 entry point - Level 2

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 3 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points) and one level 2 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).

Indonesian 3 entry point - Level 3

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 3 entry point are required to complete two of the following subjects at level 3 (25 Points) and one level 3 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).

INDONESIAN 5 ENTRY POINT (formerly Advanced stream)

Indonesian 5 entry point - Level 1

Students completing an Indonesian major with an Indonesian 5 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points).

Indonesian 5 entry point - Level 2

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 5 entry point are required to complete two of the following subjects at level 2 (25 Points) and one level 2 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).

Indonesian 5 entry point - Level 3

Students completing the Indonesian major with an Indonesian 5 entry point are required to complete two of the following subjects (that they have not previously completed) at level 3 (25 Points) and one level 3 elective subject (12.5 points) (see list of electives below).
