Candidates will pursue an independent, research-based study. The proposed topic must have the prior approval of the Dean. Candidates are to submit a written report of 8,000-10,000 words for assessment.

MUSI90124 is undertaken part-time over 4 semesters. Students wishing to complete their Research Project on a full-time basis over 2 semesters should enrol in MUSI90119 Research Paper (FullTime) instead of MUSI90124.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

• Demonstrate a command of both standard literature and writings at the current scholarly forefront of the chosen field;
• Develop the capacity for independent and original research and the ability to, plan and execute a substantial research project.

The research paper submitted by the candidate will be examined and graded by two examiners pursuant to Statute 12.1.

Candidates are required to present their research findings as a 20-minute paper to the Postgraduate Seminar during the second semester of enrolment.
