Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Regular, documented consultations over two semesters with the supervisor(s) as arranged. Meetings should normally occur at least fortnightly and should be at least of half an hour duration.

Total 360 hours, over 2 consecutive semesters.

Prerequisites:

Admission to the postgraduate diploma or fourth-year combined honours in Asian studies.

Subject Overview:

Students will be required to write a thesis of 12 000 words on a topic approved by the supervisor. They will also be required to present a seminar paper on the results of their research.

Objectives:
  • have an ability to evaluate research and professional literature concerning Asia.
  • have a capacity to articulate their findings and views in oral and written presentations.
  • have an advanced understanding of major issues and sensitivities regarding Asia.
  • have a capacity to engage where appropriate with issues to do with Asia. and
  • have an appreciation of the design, conduct and reporting of research.
Assessment:

A thesis of 12 000 words 100% (due at the end of the second semester of enrolment).

Please note this thesis subject is currently being phased out and is only available to students who commenced their Honours/PD-Arts program prior to 2013. Students wishing to enrol in Honours/PD-Arts from 2013 will need to enrol in a 50 point thesis subject as per the course requirements for BH-Arts & PD-Arts.
