Management Competencies

This subject has the following teaching availabilities in 2013:

In this subject you will engage in an assessment of your management skills and develop your ethical, personal, interpersonal and team-based skills. By doing so, you will develop your knowledge of management as well as capacity for creative analysis, problem solving, ethical decision making and written and verbal communication

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

• Engage in the critical skills and knowledge of managerial work;
• Demonstrate change and development in your cognitive and behavioural characteristics in relation to being a manager;
• Demonstrate your competency in several critical management competencies; and
• Transfer this learning and development to organizational and other settings.

• Individual assignment (1000 words) due in Week 4 (10%)
• Individual weekly online quiz (commencing Week 2) (10%)
• Team project (3000 words) due end of semester (30%)
• Individual management competencies portfolio (3000 words) due end of semester (50%)

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

On successful completion of this subject, students should have improved the following generic skills:

• Critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills, developed through reflection, case studies, experiential activities and assignments;
• Research skills developed through preparation of exercises and assessment;
• Verbal and written communication skills, developed through discussion, experiential activities and assessment;
• Ethical thinking and work practice skills in management, through experiential activities and case studies.
