Subject Overview: |
This subject introduces advanced learners of Japanese to two interrelated, but different, areas of language study: translation and interpreting. It provides the students with opportunities to understand and gain knowledge necessary for interpreting and translating. It involves the practice of interpreting and text translation in various settings and contexts. Students are also encouraged to explore the differences and similarities in various aspects of Japanese and English. |

Assessment: |
Written translation tasks in week 4, 500-words, 10% and week 7, 800-words, 20% , an interpreting test in week 12, 800-words, 20% and a final 2000 -words examination 50% (due at the end of semester). Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject. |
