Previously available as 116-060 Italian Part 2: Cultural Studies. Students who have completed Italian Part 2: Cultural Studies are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Subject Overview:

This subject allows students to study key aspects of Italian culture, primarily through the analysis of specific literary texts and/or films. Students will also have the opportunity to study the development of Italian society. By the end of the subject, students should have been introduced to a number of literary texts and/or films in order to improve their standard of comprehension and to gain some understanding of the process of literary/cultural criticism. They should also have acquired the ability to examine critically various aspects of Italian history and culture.

Objectives:
  • have developed a critical understanding of postwar Italy.
  • have developed skills in the analysis of literary texts and/or films.
  • be able to discuss competently literary texts and/or films through the medium of Italian.
Assessment:

One written test 25% (due mid-semester), one 1500 word essay 40% (due at the end of semester), tutorial participation 10% (throughout semester), one 1-hour test 25% (due at the end of semester).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

  • Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
  • All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
