Enrolment in the Computing specialisation of the Master of Information Technology, with completion of 50 Computing and Information Systems points at study level 6 or 9 (excluding COMP90007 Internet Technologies, COMP90038 Algorithms and Complexity, COMP90041 Programming and Software Development and SINF90001 Database Systems and Information Modelling)

This subject involves in-depth investigation of a significant problem related to Computing. The subject also provides students with skills and knowledge for analysing and solving problems, and enhanced written and oral communication skills.

Upon completion of this subject students should be able to:

• Independently investigate topic areas relating to Computing;
• Synthesise work related to the topic of study;
• Write and present a proposal and report.

• A project proposal of 800 - 1000 words, due at the end of week 4 of semester (10%)
• A 20 minute presentation of the project or demonstration of a working system, including answering audience questions, due in week 12( 10%)
• A project report of 8,000 - 10,000 words, due in the second week of the examination period (80%)

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

On completion of this subject students should:

• Be able to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution;
• Have a capacity for independent critical thought, rational inquiry and self-directed learning;
• Have a profound respect for truth and intellectual integrity, and for the ethics of scholarship;
• Be able to present work in written form; and
• Be able to present work orally and answer questions about it.
