Subject Overview: |
This subject examines the arts and culture as part of an economic system. Students are introduced to diverse approaches to the economic characterisation of arts and cultural production including culture as a public good, the creative industries paradigms and the role of taxation policies in private support for cultural activity. The economic imperiatives of different sectors of the arts and cultural industry will be analysed from the highly commercialised free-market operations of the sections of the entertainment industries compared with the state subsidised structure of other cultural activities. |
