Conservation of Materials

Office experience with a conservation practitioner.

The characteristics and problems, and appropriate repair and conservation, of the materials of historic buildings including stonemasonary; clay products; lime, cement and concrete; plasters and renders; timeber; and metals.

To give the ability to propose solutions for physical problems including decay, disintegration, structural failure, dampness, corrosion, and discolouration.

• up to four written and illustrated reports totalling 3000 words or equivalent 50% due during intensive teaching period;
• two hour written examination 50% at the end of the intensive teaching period.

A pass requires a mark of at least 50% overall and at least 40% in each of the two components
