Global Health

The global health specialisation places particular emphasis on health in resource limited settings. By exploring key areas of global health, students who undertake subjects within this specialisation will gain a critical understanding of the global issues which impact the health of people in low and middle income populations. Moreover, students will develop skills required to respond to important health issues via needs assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation, and the application of these in a global setting. Students may also apply to undertake a Research Project in Global Health in any area of interest.

The specialisation is suitable for people who are currently working in global health, students from low and middle income countries, and those interested in gaining qualifications that will enable them to develop and implement best practice responses to global health issues. It will assist people planning to work with international aid/development agencies and NGOs.

Standard 200 Point Program (no Advanced Standing):
SIX core subjects and TEN elective subjects (Full Coursework program) OR
SIX core subjects, EIGHT elective subjects and either a Research Project or Professional Practice unit

Students granted 25 Credit Points Advanced Standing:
SIX core subjects and EIGHT elective subjects OR
SIX core subjects, SIX elective subjects and either a Research Project or Professional Practice unit

Students granted 50 Credit Points Advanced Standing:
FIVE core subjects and SEVEN elective subjects OR
FIVE core subjects and FIVE elective subjects and either a Research Project or Professional Practice unit

Core Subjects

Student must complete POPH90217 unless they have been granted 50 points Advanced Standing (150 point program) or an exemption has been granted.

Highly Recommended Electives

Students cannot enrol in both POPH90137 and POPH90131. They must choose to enrol in only one of these.

Pre-requisite Subjects for the Research Project Option

Research Project

Students may apply to enrol in a Research Project in Global Health.

Those students who do undertake (or are currently enrolled in) the Research Project please note the following important information:

• Students who have already completed one semester of their Research Project will be completing their project over two semester’s (12.5 points per semester) so please enroll in the remaining semester.
• Students who have not commenced their Research Project have the option of applying to enrol in a year-long research project or a semester-long research project.
