This major can be taken by students enrolled in the pre-2008 Bachelor of Arts - please refer to the course overview for details. Spanish and Latin American Studies Spanish language subjects are organised in a progressive sequence (of units) from Spanish 1 to 7 through to the Spanish Electives. Students may enter at any point, subject to placement testing and/or prerequisites, and normally progress through the sequence in consecutive order. Accelerated progression and mid-year entry are also possible in special cases with the permission of the course convenor. Mid-year entry is also possible into subjects with even numbers. |

Spanish and Latin American Studies A 100-point major sequence is available. The sequence is as follows for the three most common entry points:
Students completing a major in Spanish will usually undertake 25 points at level one, 37.5 points at level two and 37.5 points at level three. Subject Options: | SPANISH 1 ENTRY POINT (formerly Beginners Stream):Spanish 1 entry point - Level 1Students completing the Spanish major with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points).
Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 1 entry point - Level 2Students completing the Spanish major with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (37.5 points). Intensive Intermediate Spanish (summer) 25.00 points can be completed in lieu of Spanish 3 and 4 (recommended for high achieving students in Spanish 2). Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 1 entry point - Level 3Students completing the Spanish major with a Spanish 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects and one elective (37.5 points). *Spanish 5 and Spanish 6 were previously called Spanish Post-Intermediate 3A and 3B respectively. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: SPANISH 3 ENTRY POINT (formerly Intermediate Stream):Spanish 3 entry point - Level 1Students completing the Spanish major with a Spanish 3 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (25 points). Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 3 entry point - Level 2Students completing the Spanish major with a Spanish 3 entry point are required to complete the following subjects and one elective (37.5 points). *Spanish 5 and Spanish 6 were previously called Spanish Post-Intermediate 2A and 2B respectively. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 3 entry point - Level 3Students completing the Spanish major are required to complete the following subject and two electives (37.5 points). *Spanish 7 was previously called Advanced Spanish 3A. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: SPANISH 5 ENTRY POINT (formerly Advanced/Post VCE Spanish Stream):Spanish 5 entry point - Level 1Students completing the Spanish major are required to complete the following subjects (25 points). *Spanish 5 and Spanish 6 were previously called LaTrobe-Spanish Language & Culture 1A and 1B respectively. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 5 entry point - Level 2Students completing the Spanish major are required to complete the following subject (12.5points) and two electives (25 points). *Spanish 7 was previously called LaTrobe-Spanish Language & Culture 2A. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Spanish 5 entry point - Level 3Students completing the Spanish major are required to complete 3 electives (37.5 points). ELECTIVES:NOTE:
*Students in the Spanish 1 Entry Point are required to take one Level 3 elective subject (12.5 points). This has to be a Spanish elective.
*Students in the Spanish 3 Entry Point are required to take 3 elective subjects (one at Level 2 and two at Level 3 - 37.5 points) . They can take up to 1 European Studies/Other elective subject (12.5 points). *Students in the Spanish 5 Entry Point are required to take 5 elective subjects (two at Level 2 and three at Level 3 - 62.5 points). They can take up to 2 European Studies/Other elective subjects (25 points).
