Time Commitment: Contact Hours: This course will be taught over five weeks from January 16th 2012 to February 16th 2012, from Monday to Thursday, four hours per day, totalling 72 contact hours. Note: no classes will be held on the 26th of January.

Subject Overview:

This subject is worth 25 credit points as it covers the syllabus of Intermediate Spanish semesters 1 and 2. It is taught in an intensive fashion, in small groups. Students are expected to undertake at least 3 hours of private study per day to prepare the material to be covered in each class and to prepare and revise for the assessment tasks. This subject emphasizes Spanish speaking and listening skills, while also attending to the development of reading and writing skills. The student will be involved in a wide range of language acquisition activities and will be exposed to the Spanish speaking cultures through written language, radio, music and film.

Objectives:

By the end of the course, students will

  • have developed good aural comprehension skills.
  • have continued to improve their skills in reading, and spoken, and written Spanish.
  • have improved their understanding of aspects of Hispanic cultures and societies.
Assessment:

Continuous aural, oral and written assessment. The assessment consists of online activities, three written tests, one midterm exam, and one final exam.

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

  • Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 80% attendance.
  • All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
