The minimum level of performance required for this ensemble would be equivalent to AMEB grade 7 or a high grade for VCE solo performance.

An audition will be required in week 1 and places may be limited due to the nature of the repertoire.

Subject Overview:

Students explore all aspects of singing with other singers, from the purely technical (intonation, breathing together, harmonized pronunciation) to the subtleties of developing relationships and roles, from the love duet to the "comprimarios" quintet and the larger choral operatic groups.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • Show technical development as ensemble musicians
  • Participate with ability and self-confidence as a team member of a performing group
  • Perform selected repertoire to concert standard
  • Identify and exhibit specific knowledge of a range of ensemble repertoire
  • Exhibit an informed respect for the values and principles of ensemble performance
Assessment:

Assessment will be on a pass/fail basis and will be based on preparation of parts, individual and/or sectional practice and active participation in all rehearsals, classes and performances as directed (100%).

Less than 80% attendance will result in a fail.
