Students who have previously completed the subject Rome: Fact or Fiction at Levels 2 and 3 or Contemporary Italy Study Abroad at Level 2 or Level 3 are not allowed to enrol in this subject.

This subject provides students with a three-week intensive language and culture experience in Prato, Tuscany. The focus of the subject will be an exploration of aspects of conteporary Italy including language, culture, society, politics and the Arts. Students will be involved in a range of collaborative activities with Italians. The subject will integrate information technology to establish ongoing relationships.

• Students will deepen their understanding of contemporary Italy through first hand exposure to aspects of life in the country.
• Students will widen their repertoire of communicative skills through immersion in Italian language and culture.
• Students will use information technology to communicate with counterparts in Italy.

• Contemporary language and culture group project (750 words) - 15%
• Regular language exercises - 15%;
• Oral presentation of 5 minutes - 10%
  All due during the teaching period in Nov/Dec
  
• Reflective intercultural journal (equivalent to 750 words) - 15%
• Final research paper 2000 words - 45%.
  Due in January 2012

This subject has the following hurdle requirements: Students are required to participate in all scheduled activities. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
