Subject Overview: |
Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce (B2B EC) involves the use of digital technologies to streamline the sourcing, acquisition, delivery and remittance of materials and services between companies. An example is the application of EC to enable buffer stock reduction and throughput acceleration between the supply and distribution chains of manufacturing and retailing organizations. Topics discussed include: information exchanges and key business processes involved in the exchange of goods and services between trading partners; the role of the Internet; inventory and replenishment systems including Just-In-Time (JIT), Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), Collaborative planning Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR); standardization of product and shipment numbering including automatic identification; Electronic Data Interchange (EDI); Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT); Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI); Evaluated Receipts Settlement (ERS); reengineering supply chains using EC technologies; advanced distribution techniques; and theories of B2B network transformation. Case studies of EC supply chain adoption are used to exemplify practice. |

A group project consisting of 1000 word written assignment and 20 minute presentation due mid semester (20%), an individual research paper of 3000 words due at the end of the semester (30%), and a-2-hour end-of-semester examination (50%). |
