Course Overview:

The postgraduate diploma allows students to undertake a research project in a specialist field of study. Students will gain considerable knowledge in an area of public policy and engage in critical assessment of the major theoretical claims of the discipline. The course provides a pathway to higher degree research for students who have not completed honours in public policy.
Objectives:

Students who complete the postgraduate diploma should:

  • complete the equivalent of fourth year honours with a research component and obtain a recognised qualification;
  • obtain an adequate basis for pursuing advanced studies in public policy at masters or PhD level;
  • develop a specialist understanding of specific areas of study, showing an understanding of the latest research directions;
  • develop a capacity for an advanced level of analysis in relation to the specific issues in public policy.

  • Thesis 12,000 words (37.5 points)
  • One compulsory subject (12.5 points)
  • One core subject (12.5 points)
  • three elective subjects (37.5 points)

Entry Requirements:

The minimum entry requirement is:

  • an undergraduate degree with a major in political science or cognate discipline with a grade average of H2B (70%) or equivalent in the major.
