Overview:

The prerequisites for entry to sociology honours are completion of all the requirements for the BA, completion of a major in sociology, and an average of at least H2A (75%) in second and third-year subjects within the major, or equivalent, including the completion of subject(s) 166-081 Quantitative Social Research and 166-086 Qualitative Research Strategies, or 191-004 Introduction to Research Methods, or 191-004/MULT20003 Social Science Research Methods, or MULT20003 Critical Analytical Skills.

Structure & Available Subjects:

Students undertaking pure honours in Sociology must complete:

  • Sociology Thesis (37.5 points);
  • Qualitative Research Methods (12.5 points);
  • Social Science Research Seminar (12.5 points); and
  • Elective subjects (37.5 points).

Students undertaking combined honours in Sociology and another program must complete:

  • Sociology Thesis (37.5 points)
  • Qualitative Research Methods(12.5 points);
  • Social Science Research Seminar (12.5 points);
  • Three subjects in the combining discipline (37.5 points).

or

  • Honours thesis in the combining discipline (37.5 points);
  • Two subjects in the combining discipline (25 points);
  • Qualitative Research Methods(12.5 points); and
  • Elective sociology subjects (25 points).

Total 100 points
