Subject Overview: This subject focuses on advanced nursing practice in primary care. This involves areas such as leadership in a multidisciplinary environment, initiating systems change, implementing evidence based practice and research to improve health outcomes, new models of comprehensive complex team care e.g. nurse-led clinics.
Objectives:

At the completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • Describe innovation, change management and leadership models relevant to multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrate advanced evaluation and research skills of complex care in general practice
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in implementing evidence based practice and guidelines for health outcomes
  • Demonstrate the reflective skills to mentor, educate and provide leadership in a multidisciplinary team
  • Critically appraise new models of nursing care within general practice
Assessment:
  • Career portfolio equivalent to 1,000 words due early semester (30%)
  • 1,000 word case study due mid-semester (30%)
  • Reflective journal throughout semester due end of semester (pass/fail hurdle requirement)
  • 2,000 word written assignment due end of semester (40%)

Students must achieve a cumulative mark of at least 50% and a pass in the hurdle requirement in order to pass the subject.
