Subject Overview: This subject is designed to meet the needs of nurses and other clinically-based health professionals seeking further education in identifying, appraising and utilising research as an evidential base for their daily practice. The subject aims to facilitate the development of skills and knowledge that will allow participants to incorporate evidence based practice into clinical decision making.
Objectives: At the completion of this subject students should be able to:
  • understand the role of evidence-based practice in nursing.
  • incorporate evidence based practice into clinical decision-making.
Assessment:
  • 2,500-word critical appraisal of a randomised controlled trial and application to a clinical scenario (30%) – Due week 6
  • 4,500-word written assignment in relation to research implementation in a clinical setting (50%) – Due end of semester
  • Participation and completion of weekly online activities of at least 10 weeks - equivalent 2,000 words (20%)

  • Apply evidence in the clinical setting to address patient problems or clinical issues.
