Course Overview: The purpose of the Professional Certificate in Organisational Improvement is to provide a general burst mode program for professional managers and others wishing to achieve a high level of proficiency (‘widely known as ‘black belt’) in the philosophy, tools and techniques of Six Sigma business improvement procedures. Six Sigma procedures involve the rigorous analyses of business improvement opportunities and their investigation, followed by specific organisational interventions and initiatives. Six Sigma is a body of knowledge that is founded on the fields of statistics, process control and the psychology of organisational change and human resource management, with important applications to organisational development.
Objectives:

Graduates of the Professional Certificate in Organisational Improvement will demonstrate the following attributes at a masters level.

  • Understand the technical content of Generic Six Sigma (Black Belt) theory and practice and its relationship to broader social questions and to organisational outcomes;
  • Appreciate how to create and acquire knowledge within their discipline;
  • Are familiar with methods of applying statistical methods supporting Six Sigma in practical settings;
  • Realise how the creation, dissemination and application of knowledge within the Six Sigma discipline are intimately related;
  • Can articulate their knowledge in an appropriate form, including formulation of performance metrics associated with Six Sigma business improvement and control.
  • Are capable of independent critical thought concerning the change management techniques of Six Sigma;
  • Exhibit analytic and problem-solving skills, particularly in statistical analysis and project management capabilities;
Course Structure & Available Subjects: The program involves a 4-week intensive delivery of coursework, followed by assessable work that needs to be completed no more than 4 months after coursework delivery is completed. Students will be required to successfully complete all assessable work to accumulate a total of 25 points to receive the award.

An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years full-time relevant documented professional work experience,
OR


Extensive relevant professional work experience which demonstrates a capacity to successfully undertake the course:
At least 10 years minimum work experience.

  • Continual advancement in career.
  • Professional experience in areas of production or operations management.
  • Prospective students will be informed that in order to complete this program successfully, it is required that they are able to arrange access to company data or project materials for the purposes of the major project.

Further Study: Successful completion of this program will provide students with the equivalent of two 12.5 point subject credits to the 100 point Master of Enterprise (Executive) program. The credit would be in the form of exemptions to the subjects Quantitative Analysis for Managerial Decisions and Production and Operations Management.
