Subject Overview:

Students undertake a research project and prepare a thesis.

The thesis topic must be approved by the Research and Graduate Studies Committee and any variation to the topic must be approved by the Committee. The minor thesis may be presented as:

  • a thesis of approximately 15,000 words;

OR

  • a critical edition and commentary of comparable weighting;

OR

  • a folio of analyses and commentary of comparable weighting.
Objectives:

On completion of the subject students should have acquired:

  • A detailed knowledge of scholarship in the area of their research;
  • The necessary skills to conduct a research project, and;
  • A capacity to evaluate, interpret and report in a manner that demonstrates a high level of independent thought.
Assessment:

Candidates must submit within the period of candidature two copies of the thesis for examination pursuant to Statute 12.5.1.
