Subject Overview: |
This subject is a studio-based program combining self-initiated activity with some structured classes in painting and other media. Students are encouraged to systematically explore their ideas and concerns and to investigate a range of materials and mediums. At this level the emphasis is upon a broader experimental process. Students are required to articulate, discuss and evaluate their work through dialogue in regular individual and group tutorials and to develop via group discussion a greater awareness of national and international contemporary art practice. Students are increasingly expected to develop independent work strategies and a mature studio practice. Professional Practice introduces students to the tools, skills and techniques of traditional painting methods and material, as well as materials, processes and methodologies employed in the broader range of contemporary art practice. A thorough understanding of good health and safety practices is also emphasized at this level. |
