Subject Overview: This subject is for students specialising in Theatre Animateuring. This subject involves the application of composition, planning and management, facilitation, collaboration and directing skills to the creation and realisation of new performance works. Other disciplinary skills will complement the principle area of specialisation. There will be two projects undertaken in this semester: (1) The facilitation of a short work of original performance devised with a group of actors from the acting stream. In this project, the Animateurs works as a facilitator/director of the performance, which is also an important facet of the actors training program. (2) This project is to be a more developed piece and is intended to be part of a season for the general public. It may be in the form of collaboration with another stream or course or an independently produced project led and organised by the Animateurs. This will depend upon opportunities that arise within the year.
Objectives:
  • develop the ability to inspire, motivate, communicate and collaborate, to construct a performance work;
  • apply knowledge gained in the materials and structures of performance making to the creation of a performance work with a small group of performers;
  • facilitate a group in the development of a performance work that expresses the interests of all involved;
  • act as leader in the areas of initiating, developing and structuring a performance;
  • cohere the various elements of production into a satisfying whole;
  • conduct a technical rehearsal;
  • work within a given production budget;
  • present a theatre work for an audience;
  • exhibit the ability to document, reflect upon and evaluate a creative process.
Assessment: Project 1: preparation, involvement, rehearsal, performance (30%). Project 2: preparation, involvement, rehearsal, performance (30%). Written work and documentation not exceeding 2000 words (40%) (mid, end semester); Hurdle Requirement 80% attendance
