Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: 36 hours; A 1 hour meeting with supervisor once a fortnight, attendance at 2 half day sessions for student oral presentations (4 hours each); attendance at 2 full day research training skills workshops (8 hours each). Prerequisites: | Students entering the MPH from 2011 must have a weighted average mark of at least 70% for all relevant subjects to be eligible to enrol in the research project. Subject Overview: | The research project must be in the area of social health and the topic must be approved by the nominated supervisor. Under normal circumstances, the project will involve: a) a conceptual or theoretical analysis of a given topic in social health; or b) an analysis of existing data relevant to social health. Collection and analysis of primary data may be undertaken, but only with the specific approval of the subject co-ordinator, in consultation with the nominated supervisor. Supervisors will be University academic staff with research capacity and interest in social health.

Assessment: |
A 15 minute work in progress oral presentation due during the first week of the second semester of enrolment (10%); a 30 minute final oral presentation due during the final week of the second semester of enrolment (20%); a research report of between 8,000 and 10,000 words, due during the examination period of the second semester of enrolment (70%). Students must pass the written research report (hurdle). |
