Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: 36 hours; A 1 hour meeting with supervisor once a fortnight, attendance at 2 half day sessions for student oral presentations (4 hours each); attendance at 2 full day research training skills workshops (8 hours each). Prerequisites: | POPH90095 Economic Evaluation 2 (may be taken concurrently) if undertaking a research project in economic evaluation. In addition to the subjects below students must also have other MPH subjects that are relevant to the proposed research project. Students entering the MPH from 2011 must have a weighted average mark of at least 70% for all relevant subjects to be eligible to enrol in the research project. Subject Overview: |
Students will develop a research question in Health Economics/Economic Evaluation and adopt appropriate research methods to answer the research question. The research report will normally include the following components: formulation of a research question; critical appraisal of the literature; proposal of a research design or method of research/analysis, or development of an evaluation protocol; conducting analysis; reporting of findings; elaborating the meaning of findings; comparison of findings with relevant research and discussion of related issues, including limitations, policy implications and directions for future research; drawing conclusions based on research findings and discussion. |

Note: Students must pass the written research report assessment and must receive a combined score for the research report and the presentations of at least 50% in order to pass this subject. |
