Subject Overview: | This subject will examine the teaching of upper and lower strings from a number of perspectives. Areas of study and discussion will include the shared interests and experience of teachers within the group and will also draw upon literature relating to a variety of pedagogical traditions, schools and techniques for comparative analysis and discussion. Important works of the string repertoire will be used as a focus for intensive study. Students will have the opportunity to pursue their own interests and areas of specialisation in particular areas within string pedagogy. |

On completion of this subject, students should have gained:

Assessment: | Attendance and contribution to seminar discussion and workshops (10%); a teaching presentation on Day 4 of the subject (20%); a written and practical analysis of 1,000 words and 15 minutes’ duration on Day 4, of the subject of selected works from a pedagogical standpoint (20%); a 4,000 folio of work addressing the principles of string pedagogy in specific areas chosen by the student words (60%), due 6 weeks after final class date. |
