Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 4.5 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: INDO40003 Indonesian 4B or equivalent.

Subject Overview:

In this subject students will further develop their ability to critically read, analyse, discuss and write in Indonesian about social, political, cultural and historical phenomena in Indonesia and the world by engaging closely with a variety of texts including, for example, research papers, literature and film. Oral and colloquial language will be made more familiar and discussion on grammar will be conducted at an advanced level.

Objectives:
  • have developed sophisticated interactional skills in Indonesian.
  • be able to conduct extensive research in Indonesian and present the results through sophisticated presentations.
  • have a solid broad understanding of cultural and political issues currently affecting Indonesia.
  • be able to analyse and comment on cultural phenomena in scholarly terms.
  • be able to conduct research and present findings using complex and differentiated forms of expression.
  • be able to participate in discussions about major contemporary social and political issues in a cultural world not one's own.
Assessment:

A 1000-word essay 20% (due early semester), an in-class test 20% (due late semester), tutorial participation 20% (due throughout the semester), a 1500-word essay 30% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10% .

Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
