Subject Overview:

This subject extends and reinforces students' knowledge of Latin grammar and syntax. The close examination of Latin linguistic forms and structures provided by this subject is designed both to increase students' understanding of how the Latin language functions, and to facilitate the reading of complex literary texts studied in other Intermediate Level Latin subjects. On completion of the subject, students should have consolidated and expanded their knowledge of Latin grammar and syntax, and improved their Latin reading ability.

Objectives:
  • have consolidated and extended their knowledge of Latin grammar.
  • have improved their Latin reading ability.
Assessment:

Weekly exercises equivalent to 1000 words 25% (due during the semester), a mid-semester assessment test equivalent to 1000 words 25% (due in Week 6), and a 2-hr examination equivalent to 2000 words 50% (due in the examination period).

Hurdle requirement: students must attend a minimum of 75% of tutorials in order to pass this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day; after five days, no late assessment will be accepted. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
