This subject will develop students' ability to relate patterns of Chinese language use to the society and culture of which the language is a part. Methodologies used are those of social and cultural anthropology and sociolinguistics. Lectures in Chinese on salient aspects of Chinese society and current issues in research. Discussion will include the application of fieldwork methods to the study of China. |
