Subject Overview: The history and application of conservation philosophy; current procedures pursuant to the Venice Charter and Burra Charter; and concepts such as anastylosis, cultural significance, and reversible adaptation.
Objectives: To impart an understanding of conservation principles as required of practitioners by international, professional and government bodies.
Assessment:
  • Class work 10%;
  • two set exercises totalling 2500 words or equivalent 40% due weeks 5 and 9;
  • two hour written examination 50%, end of semester;
  • a pass requires at least 40% in the class work and exercises, at least 40% in the written examination, and at least 50% overall.
