Hebrew and Jewish Studies

Currently there is no pure honours program in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Students must combine fourth-year honours in Hebrew and Jewish Studies with another area of study in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) offered by the Faculty of Arts. However, combined honours is available in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. This means that students must combine fourth-year honours in Hebrew and Jewish Studies with another area of study in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

The prerequisites for entry to combined honours in Hebrew and Jewish Studies are completion of all the requirements for the BA, with a major in Hebrew and Jewish Studies and an average of at least H2B (70%) in second and third-year subjects within the major, or equivalent.

Students undertaking combined honours in Hebrew and Jewish Studies and another program must complete:

• Hebrew and Jewish Studies Thesis (37.5 points); and
• Two honours subjects in Hebrew and Jewish Studies chosen from the list below (totalling 25 points); and
• Three honours subjects in the combining discipline (totalling 37.5 points).

or

• Honours thesis in the combining discipline (37.5 points); and
• Two honours subjects in the combining discipline (totalling 25 points); and
• Three honours subjects in Hebrew and Jewish Studies (totalling 37.5 points).

Compulsory Subject

Compulsory for students taking the thesis in Hebrew and Jewish Studies.

Note: the thesis requires two consecutive semesters of enrolment.
