Dates & Locations: This is a time-based subject, taught on campus at Parkville.
Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Regular contact with supervisor over the period of enrolment
Total Time Commitment: Total of 30 hours per week.
Prerequisites: Either: completion of a BA Honours degree, or equivalent, in Social Theory or closely related discipline with a final result of at least H2A (75%), or completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Theory with a grade average of at least H2A.
Corequisites: During their period of enrolment in this subject students will normally undertake two of the following four subjects:

Subject Overview:

Candidates will undertake research on a topic approved by the course co-coordinator under supervision of an academic member of staff.
Objectives: Students who successfully complete this subject will:
  • develop a research proposal.
  • pursue a research topic with critical discussion of the relevant theoretical literature.
  • further develop critical and analytical abilities.
Assessment: A thesis of 20,000 - 22,000 words.
Prescribed Texts: Appropriate texts will be determined in consultation with thesis supervisor

Generic Skills:
  • develop skills in written and oral communication.
