Subject Overview:

This subject develops musical literacy and the effective realisation of dramatic content through an understanding of harmonic function and the approach to timbre, texture, melodic and rhythmic phrasing.

Objectives: Upon completion of this subject students should be able to:
• make practical use of a greater understanding of music notation.
• understand harmonic function
• apply aural and theoretical comprehension skills to both solo and ensemble work;
• Engage in informed discussion regarding many of the elements pertaining to the comprehension of notated music
Assessment:

Continuous: Preparation and progress as demonstrated by three written tests throughout the semester (60%).

Formal: A one-hour written examination at the end of the first semester (40%)
