Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: 2 x 1-hour lectures per week and 1 x one hour tutorial. There will be no tutorials in the first or last weeks of semester. Total Time Commitment: 3 contact hours/week, 5 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week. | ||||||||||||

Subject Overview: |
This subject is an introduction to descriptive and theoretical approaches to the analysis of sound systems across languages. and different approaches to phonology, training in formal phonological analysis, and the development of phonological theory until the present. |

Assessment: | Two assignments totalling 2500 words 65% (due at regular intervals during the semester), and a problem-based 2-hour exam 35% (held in the examination period). |
