Subject Overview: |
This subject is an overview of trends in modern Indonesian literature in English translation from the Nationalist period to the present. A variety of literary works are read and discussed, placing them within their historical and cultural context. On completion of the subject, students should be familiar with the major schools of literature in modern Indonesia and their relationship to Indonesian historical trends. and have read and analysed a number of important modern Indonesian literary works of various genres. |

Assessment: | Two assignments of 1000 words 20% each (due mid-semester and end semester), an essay of 1500 words 30% (due late semester) and a 1.5-hour written examination 30% (due during the examination period). |
