Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 1 x 2-hour seminar per week

Subject Overview:

This subject covers a range of topics, such as Francophonie, Francophone cultures and identities. On completion of this subject, students should be able to understand and appreciate the historical facts, the opposing ideologies involved in the making and consolidating of Francophone cultures, as well as the complexity of Francophone societies. identify and analyse the specificity of Francophone cultures as well as the influence of French culture in the works of French-speaking authors from regions previously protected or colonised by France.

Objectives:
  • understand and appreciate the historical facts, the opposing ideologies involved in the making and consolidating of francophone cultures, as well as the complexity of francophone societies.
  • identify and analyse the specificity of francophone cultures as well as the influence of French culture in the works of French-speaking authors from regions previously protected or colonised by France.
  • present an informed and coherent point of view in discussing and explaining facts and concepts.
Assessment: A 30 minute seminar paper subsequently written up and totalling 2,000 words 40%, one 3000 word essay 60%.
