Subject Overview: This subject consists of 23 days practicum, and students will focus on a case study. Using the case study, students will conduct a formal/informal assessment and prepare a "professional" report. Workshops will be conducted to support this practicum.
Objectives: On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply and implement the theoretical constructs in the course to the assessment, planning, implementation of learning and teaching programs for preschoolers and students who have a disability;
  • Articulate information about children to team members;
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding when interacting with parents;
  • Have the ability to assess children/students using formal/informal assessment tools;
  • Have an ability to interpret the information obtained from the assessment, which will inform intervention;
  • Have an increased ability to articulate the assessment results in a written and verbal manner.
Assessment: Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 15 days supervised teaching and 8 days professional enhancement workshops (50 per cent) and assignments equivalent to 2, 000 words (50 per cent).
