Subject Overview: |
This subject aims to cultivate understanding of Arabic language in use, and equip students with sound communicative skills. We will consider key features of Arabic discourse such as politeness, gender, regional and social peculiarities. Students will engage in activities to enhance their sociocultural and pragmatic competence in Arabic to allow fuller participation in Arab society. Students will also learn to analyse written, online and face-to-face communication in a variety of social contexts, using a number of discourse analytic approaches. |

Assessment: | Homework/continuous assessment (best 8 pieces) 15% (throughout the semester), class participation/presentation 15% (ongoing), a 15-minute aural/oral test 20% (due week 6) and a 30 minute aural.oral test 50% (during the examination period). |
