Subject Overview:

This subject will introduce students to past and current policies relating to the arts and cultural policy in Australia and Victoria, and analyse arts policy development. The subject will also examine the development of arts policy organisations of federal, state and local governments and compare these to similar organisations overseas.
Objectives:
  • be able to understand government policies and strategies associated with the arts industry;
  • be able to demonstrate the ability and self-confidence to comprehend and analyse complex policy and political frameworks;
  • be able to access a broad range of institutional and systemic structures; and
  • be able to analyse and critique new policy initiatives for the arts industry as they arise.
Assessment: An essay of 1000 words 20% (due early semester), a group project and seminar presentation of 2000 words 40% (due late semester) and an essay of 2000 words 40% (due one week after end of semester).
