Overview:

The minimum entry requirement for linguistics & applied linguistics honours is completion of all the requirements for the BA, with a major in linguistics & applied linguistics and an average grade over the second/third year subjects within the major equivalent to at least an H2A (75%).

Structure & Available Subjects:

Students undertaking pure honours in linguistics and applied linguistics must complete:

  • Linguistics & Applied Linguistics Thesis (37.5 points); and
  • Issues in Linguistic Research (25 points); and
  • 37.5 points of fourth-year subjects in linguistics and applied linguistics.

Students undertaking combined honours in linguistics and applied linguistics and another program must complete:

  • Linguistics & Applied Linguistics Thesis (37.5 points); and
  • 25 points fourth-year level subjects in linguistics and applied linguistics; and
  • 37.5 points of fourth-year level subjects in the combined discipline.

or

  • Honours thesis in the combining discipline (37.5 points); and
  • 25 points of fourth-year level subjects in the combining discipline; and
  • Issues in Linguistic Research (25 points) and one fourth-year level subject in linguistics and applied linguistics (12.5 points).
