Time Commitment: Contact Hours: A 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour practical language class per week
Total Time Commitment: 3 contact hours/week , 5 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: VCE Modern Greek or an approved equivalent.

Subject Overview: In this subject Year 12 skills in Greek are consolidated and extended through exercises in understanding a variety of authentic spoken and written materials, and through practice at speaking and writing with due attention to grammatical accuracy and appropriate usage. The materials used also serve as an introduction to contemporary Greek society and culture. Students should be able to communicate in Modern Greek on a wide range of topics relating to Modern Greek culture and society with a reasonable degree of grammatical accuracy.
Objectives:
  • be able to communicate in Modern Greek on a wide range of topics relating to Modern Greek culture and society with a reasonable degree of grammatical accuracy.
Assessment: Regular assignments and class exercises totalling 1500 words 30% (due throughout the semester), a 1000-word essay in Greek 15% (due in week 10), a 2-hour written test 40% (due at the end of semester) and a 15-minute oral/aural test 15% (due at the end of semester).
