Subject Overview:

This subject explores the processes and skills involved in planning transport and land use in pursuit of environmentally sustainable and socially equitable outcomes. The studio-based work provides an opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired. Three principal aspects of transport planning are explored: planning and operation of urban public transport; preparation and evaluation of regional transport plans and major infrastructure plans; preparation of local and regional travel demand management strategies. Students will have an opportunity to specialise in one or more of these areas.

Objectives:

On completion of the subject students will have developed skills in:

  • The basis of planning an integrated land use and transport system for a metropolitan city
  • Advanced problem analysis and problem solving in a metropolitan context
  • Transport demand management
Assessment: A group assignment of 2000 words (30%) and an individual assignment of 4000 words (70%). Students must demonstrate a high level of engagement with and/or critical analysis of the subject content to complete the subject at postgraduate level, and will be subject to assessment at postgraduate level.
