Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 4 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.

Subject Overview: In this subject students will learn to discuss, read and write with confidence about any topic, including those at a more abstract level. Students will also be presented with an overview of major current events and political and social developments in Indonesia. Students should acquire some familiarity with modern Indonesian literature through the reading of poetry and short stories.
Objectives:
  • be able to discuss, read and write with confidence about any topic including topics at a more abstract level;
  • have obtained an overview of major current events and political and social developments in Indonesia;
  • have acquired some familiarity with modern Indonesian literature through the reading of poetry and short stories;
  • develop communicative and analytical skills to deal with another culture;
  • be able to respond critically to literature and other cultural media;
  • be able to express themselves in class discussions and written essays in these matters.
Assessment: A 2-hour examination 50% (due during the examination period), a 5-minute oral examination 10% (due during the examination period), three essays of 500 words each, together 30% (due early semester, mid-semester and late semester) and continuous class participation 10%. Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
