Students are rostered to attend the clinics at the University of Melbourne pre-clinical facility, the University of Melbourne EyeCare practice and other clinical sites in the Melbourne area. Prof Neville Mcbrien| Subject Overview: | In this subject students will develop their clinical skills with their involvement in direct management of patients. Students will utilise the optometric techniques learned in Functional Disorders of Vision and refine and improve their patient management skills, initially on geriatric patients and in second semester younger patients including contact lens patients. Under supervision, students will develop their collection and analysis of patient history and symptoms and patient communication skills. Application of standard optometric techniques will be undertaken in direct patient management and students will develop their clinical routine. In second semester students will undertake direct patient assessment of contact lens consultations as well as observe paediatric patient assessment. They will also undertake some simulations of low vision patient assessment. In addition, students will receive lectures on low vision assessment and paediatric examination. |

| Assessment: | Ongoing assessment of clinical work throughout the two semesters (35%); a 2-hour practical and oral examination in the first semester examination period (10%); a 1 hour written examination in the first semester examination period (20%), a 2-hour written examination in the second semester examination period (35%). Satisfactory completion of all four components of assessment is necessary to pass the subject.
