Course Overview:

The graduate program in environment, energy and resources law provides a succinct overview of these legal areas. Legal and other professionals in the resources, energy and environment sectors will examine issues of national and international importance, keeping abreast of a range of contemporary issues. Students can focus on the legal issues relating to mining, petroleum and water resources as well as climate change, the production, distribution and environmental impact of energy, development of infrastructure, indigenous rights and environmental regulation.

 

Objectives:

The Graduate Diploma in Environment, Energy and Resources Law focuses on:

  • The underlying policies, consequent legal regimes, regulatory practices and current practical issues concerning the discovery, development and utilisation of natural resources and energy
  • Their application to contemporary environmental and native title issues
  • The identification and resolution of legal problems and issues at an advanced level from theoretical and practical perspectives.
Subject Options:

Students must complete four subjects from the prescribed list. Students who do not have a law degree from a common law system or any prior legal studies or experience are also expected to complete the two-day preliminary subject Australian Legal Process and Legal Institutions.
