Subject Overview: This subject is designed to provide students with an analytical and comprehensive understanding of Italian usage at an advanced level. Topics will vary, and may include contrastive analysis of English and Italian, varieties of Italian, dialects, geographical variation, history of the Italian language, topics in applied linguistics. This subject is both descriptive and practical and is intended to give students a better understanding of Italian in its many contexts.
Objectives:
  • have acquired an understanding of Italian in various context;
  • be able to analyse aspects of the Italian language and its usage.
Assessment: Two 30-minute quizzes 10% each (due mid-semester and end of semester), a 1.5-hour written test 40% (due at the end of semester), an 2500 word essay 40% (due at the end of semester).
