Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 8 additional hours/week. Total of 12 hours per week. | ||||||||||||
Prerequisites: | Students who have a Chinese-speaking background and minimal literacy skills or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester. | ||||||||||||

Subject Overview: | This subject is for students who have a Chinese-speaking background and minimal literacy skills. By the conclusion of this subject students should have built on their knowledge of Chinese and be able to read original Chinese material on current affairs as well as be able to write modern standard Chinese in an acceptable style. They should be able to conduct conversation in Chinese on topics of general interest. |

Assessment: | A mid-semester test 10%, an oral presentation 20% (at the end of semester), class participation 10% and a final 2-hour examination 60% (during the examination period). |

It is only available at level 1 for students who commenced the background speakers stream of Chinese at level one This subject was previously offered as 110-039 and 110-121 Standard Chinese 2A. Students who have completed Standard Chinese 2A are not eligible to enrol in this subject. |
