Dr Etsuko ToyodaSubject Overview: | This subject aims to familiarise students with colloquial and dialectal expressions used in Japan. It introduces students to various styles of Japanese spoken by those differentiated by gender and region. It will also give students opportunities to examine different registers in various conversation settings. In class, students will view DVDs and analyse various types of conversations. Students will practice speaking in appropriate styles depending on the situation. Students who complete this subject should have acquired good knowledge of the diverse range of Japanese language practice. |

Assessment: | Two oral tests 30% (due mid-semester and at the end of semester respectively), a 2000 word final examination 50% (Due during the examination period) and class participation and in-class presentations 20% (due throughout the semester). |
