Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 4 hours of language classes per week.
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 8 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: 110-145 Chinese 1B or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Subject Overview: This is a post-elementary subject in Chinese. By the end of this subject students should know 750 Chinese characters and should have a good grasp of basic grammatical structures as well as furthering their knowledge of Chinese cultural practices.
Objectives:
  • have a knowledge of 750 Chinese characters;
  • will have good knowledge of basic grammatical structures;
  • be able to conduct a conversation in Chinese on a range of everyday topics;
  • further develop their knowledge of Chinese cultural practices;
  • make use of the diversified knowledge of intercultural communication practices.
Assessment: A 1-hour written exam 30% (examination period), mid-semester test 10%, a composition test 10% (last week of semester), regular vocabulary tests 10% (ongoing), 10-minute oral test 20% (examination period) and 30-minute listening comprehension test 20% (examination period).

Notes: This subject was previously offered as 110-028 Introductory Chinese 2A. Students who have completed Introductory Chinese 2A are not eligible to enrol in this subject.
