Overview: Geography

A major in Geography consists of a total of 100 points. All subjects listed are 12.5 points unless specified.

It comprises:

Level 1
25 points (two subjects)

Level 2
37.5 points (three subjects) from the following list:

  • Society and Environments
  • China in Transition
  • Mobile Worlds
  • Geomorphology
  • Environmental Politics and Management
  • Development and the Third World
  • Inside the City of Diversity
  • Ecology: Communities and Populations
  • GIS and Remote Sensing

Level 3
A total of 37.5 points at third-year level. This must include the capstone subject and at least one subject
identified as containing a substantial fieldwork component (indicated by *):

  • Geographical Thought (capstone)
  • China Field Class (25pts)*
  • Environmental Change (25pts)*
  • Environmental Hydrology (25pts)*
  • Sustainable Development
  • Africa: Environment, Development, People
  • Applied Ecology*
  • Coastal Geomorphology*
  • Fluvial Geomorphology*

The capstone subject is not available in the minor or as breadth studies outside the BA.

Minor
The Minor in Geography is available to students in the Bachelor of Arts degree who may be completing a major in another discipline within the BA. The minor is comprised of 25 points of study at each of year level 1, 2 and 3.
